Manfredo Massironi is theoretical and exponent of programmed and sixties experiments studying the theory of perception which still leads in teaching and research university. To better understand the mechanisms of perception on which Massironi constructs his works, the volume (exhibition catalog Macerata) is accompanied by an array of interviews and unpublished essays that introduce the reader to the section of the exhibition. The accurate full-page photographs are accompanied by precise technical descriptions of the works and their constituent principles, to provide the tools for an overall reading them.
Consistent with the scientific rigor of the operation conducted by Massironi, also witnessed by the fact that the event took place in an international conference on Gestalt psychology, the text provides a historical overview on research Massironi accessible to non-professionals work with agile glossary in the appendix.
Massironi designs flat geometric constructions whose structure encourages intervention (mental) of the user is prompted to read the works as deformation (knots, folds, abductions, displacement) applied to simple shapes. The movement in time and space to make the viewer imagine is actually distorting the true act: this operation is the result of specific investigations of Gestalt Massironi, according to which perception is taken to restore an original order that is supposed broke . This is the unique application that makes Massironi basic law of visual perception, for which 'each figure tends to be seen so that the resulting structure is much simpler than the given conditions permit "(R. Arnheim) .
